Lactation Consultants

For new moms, breastfeeding can be a task that comes with many questions when they are just starting out. At Pediatric Partners of Augusta, we strive to be the best resource to make this new experience as easy as possible for them, and this is why we have in-house lactation consultants who are there to help.

A lactation consultant has specific training in breastfeeding and breastfeeding techniques, and has spent hundreds of hours with nursing families. Other healthcare providers do not have this type of training nor have spent the amount of time learning about breastfeeding. This makes our lactation consultants an asset to our team of doctors and a resource not all pediatric doctors offer. Breastfeeding specialists are able to assist and provide insight on the ins and outs of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding can be a great option for mothers who are able to breastfeed because of the health benefits to their baby. Breastmilk can help protect babies from illness, and the skin-to-skin contact between the mother and baby can have physical and emotional benefits. Studies also show that breastfeeding can help reduce the risk of certain allergic diseases, asthma, and other diseases. Not to mention it is a great bonding experience.

Although breastfeeding can be a wonderful experience for many moms, it can be difficult for others. Our breastfeeding consultants can answer the questions a struggling mother may have including questions about their techniques, frequency, and whether the baby is getting enough. Also, to better serve our moms who are currently breastfeeding, we have a brand new breastfeeding and diaper changing room on the second floor of our office in Evans for them to use when they need to nurse. The room makes for a great quiet space for moms who prefer a more closed setting when tending to their baby.

Pediatric Partners has two locations to better serve our patients. Our Evans office is located at 411 Town Park Blvd., and our downtown Augusta office is located at 1303 d’Antignac Street, Suite 2600. If you’re a new mom with questions, please feel free to call us at 706-854-2500, visit our website pedpartners.com, or follow our Pediatric Partners of Augusta Facebook page.
