Dr. Alexia Barrientos, General Pediatrician

Dr. Barrientos

Dr. Barrientos graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a specialty in Pediatrics.  She is Board Certified in Pediatrics, and is a member of state and national  medical associations.   She joined Pediatric Partners in February, 2005, and practices at the Evans location.  She is fluent in Spanish, and welcomes Spanish speaking patients to her practice. Dr. Barrientos is married with four children, and her interests include her church, travel and the arts.

Dr. Benoit-Harris

Dr. Benoit-Harris graduated from Brown University School of Medicine with a specialty in Pediatrics and completed her residency at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a member of state and national medical associations. She practices in our Evans location, and has a special interest in the growth and development of pre-adolescent and adolescent girls. She presents a class for mothers and daughters called “Growing up Girls.” She is married with has three children and is very involved in community activities.

Dr. Lauren Wooten Smith

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Augusta, GA where she attended Episcopal Day School and Davidson Fine Arts Magnet. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College prior to being awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study maternal and child health. She attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where she also obtained her master’s in public health. She completed her pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. She has a special interest in breastfeeding medicine and complex care pediatrics. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music and hiking. She is married and is the lucky Mom to three sons. She is honored to practice in her hometown.

Dr. Gene Cannady, General Pediatrician

Dr. Cannady graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a specialty in Pediatrics. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and works at our Evans office.  He is married and has three children.

Dr. Scott Chappell, General Pediatrician

Dr. Chappell

Dr. Chappell graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a specialty in Pediatrics and completed his residency there.  He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and practices at both our Evans location and our downtown location.  He joined Pediatric Partners in 2000 and has a special interest in vaccination rates among children.  Dr. Chappell   is an avid golfer and fan of the Bulldogs.   He is married and has two children, and enjoys spending time with his family.

Dr. Karen Foushee, General Pediatrician

Dr. Foushee graduated from the Medical College of Georgia  with a specialty in Pediatrics and completed both her internship and residency there. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is one of the founding partners of Pediatric Partners. She has a special interest in sports medicine, and is actively involved in local and state organizations devoted to new and innovate ways to deliver health care in a more efficient and cost effective manner. She is married with three children and enjoys running, gourmet cooking and travel.

Dr. Herzwurm

Dr. Herzwurm graduated from the University of Georgia. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia where she completed her Pediatrics and served as Chief Resident. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and practices at our Evans location. She is married and has three wonderful sons, three beautiful daughter in laws, and five grandchildren that she considers her dessert of life. She enjoys working out, traveling, watching her Georgia Bulldogs, serving as her church’s medical director of the Hope Center, and especially spending time with friends and family. She feels it is a privilege to serve children and their families in the Augusta area.

Dr. Jimenez

Dr. Jimenez (or Dr. Ryan to his patients) graduated from Ole Miss. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Savannah where he served as Chief Resident during his third year. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and practices at our Evans location. He enjoys spending time with family, watching Ole Miss sports, golf, cycling and running. His wife is from Augusta, GA and they have 2 children.

Dr. Steve Jones, General Pediatrician

Dr. Jones received his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University. He then went to the Medical College of Georgia, where he obtained his medical degree and pediatric training in addition to serving as the Chief Resident in Pediatrics. He began private practice in 1987 and is one of the founding members of Pediatric Partners of Augusta. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and practices at our Evans location. Dr. Jones has 6 children and one grandchild.

Dr. Safford Jones

Dr. Safford Jones was born and raised in Augusta, GA- and is a proud graduate of A. R. Johnson High School and Spelman College. She obtained her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed her Pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. Dr. Safford is Board Certified in Pediatrics. She joined our practice in 2018, and can be found at the Evans and Grovetown offices. She is married with three sons and enjoys volunteering, traveling, foodie adventures, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Kitchens, General Pediatrician

Dr. Kitchens graduated from the University of North Georgia before attending medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, where she also completed her pediatric residency. She is board certified in pediatrics and practiced medicine in Cartersville, Georgia for nine years before joining Pediatric Partners. Dr. Kitchens practices at our Grovetown office. She is married with four children and enjoys spending time with her family and cats, Callie and Felix.

Dr. Sarah Lawson

Dr. Lawson graduated from the University of Georgia and obtained her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia where she also completed her Internship and Residency in Pediatrics. She is board certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Lawson practiced Pediatric Emergency Medicine in Augusta for 13 years before joining Pediatric Partners’ team to provide care to their patients in the After-Hours Clinic. Dr. Lawson is married and has five children. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and her many pets.

Dr. Jen Ligon, General Pediatrician

Dr. Ligon was born and raised in Augusta, and attended Evans High School and the University of Georgia. She attended the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where she received her degree in Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at the Medical College of Georgia. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and practices at our Evans office.  She is married and enjoys spending time with her children, Davis and Mary Alice, and their dachshunds, Smokey and Sweetie. She is an avid tennis player and is a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and is very pleased to be able to work with families in her hometown.

Anna Rees

Dr. Rees

Dr. Rees received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After graduating from college, she spent a year working at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. She then completed both medical school and her pediatric residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is board certified in pediatrics. In her free time, Dr. Rees enjoys running, spending time with family, cooking, and playing with her two dogs.

Doctor Scoggins

Dr. Scoggins

Dr. Scoggins graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (GO BIG Orange!) in 2006 and completed her residency in pediatrics at University of Tennessee Chattanooga and the Brooklyn Hospital Center. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a member of state and national medical associations. Dr. Scoggins has a special love for breastfeeding and is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Dr. Scoggins joined Pediatric Partners in 2022. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crafting, volunteering at her children’s school and with the children’s ministry at her church. She lives in Augusta with her husband and three children.
